Thomas Schmidinger was born in Austria in 1974 and studies political science and social anthropology at the University of Vienna. He teaches now at the University of Vienna and The University of Applied Sciences Oberösterreich. His research topics range from the Kurdish region to Jihadism and Migration. His research in Kurdistan began when he was still a student in 1999, when he visited Rojava the first time. Currently he is working so a book on the Yazidis in Sinjar. Schmidinger is secretary general of the Austrian Association for Kurdish Studies and Co-editor of the Vienna Kurdish Studies Yearbook.
