PM Press of Oakland, California purchased the 17,000-square-foot building at 21 Emma Street in Binghamton and not only will the facility serve as its primary distribution center, but PM Press hopes to also hold special events.
PM Press plans to set up a stage for community events, writers, and guest speakers. It also plans to offer book fairs, noting that a college town such as Binghamton needs more bookstore options.
PM Press was founded in Oakland, California in 2007 by Ramsey Kanaan. Interestingly, two PM Press Employees have strong local ties to Broome County – they are Andy Pragaz and Ericsson Goetz.
Pragaz is a graduate of Johnson City and teaches human development courses and Binghamton University. Pragaz will oversee the Emma Street distribution Center and he, as well as Gotez, will live in Binghamton.
PM Press founder Kanaan was the lead vocalist in the Scottish anarcho-punk band called Political Asylum in the 1980s. According to California News, Kanaan plans to set up a personal residence in Ithaca.
Renovation on the Emma Street building is expected to take place during the spring and summer of 2022. In addition to preparing the building to serve as a book distribution center, beautification will also take place outside including painting the building, repairing an existing 1930s retaining wall, and planting flowers.
According to its website, PM Press is a publisher of “books and media intended to educate, entertain and inspire…delivering ideas and important stories to all walks of life and preparing dreamers to meet the demands of the impossible.”
